Care home making music that crosses generations.

Care home making music that crosses generations.

A Giffnock care home is hitting the right note with residents by hosting parent and toddler music classes.

Eastwood Court care home has recently started hosting the popular classes which provide great interaction between the generations.

The weekly classes at the home have received positive feedback from both parents and residents alike.

Eastwood Court has also welcomed local nursery school children to the home for creative learning sessions including gardening, with residents taking part.

Sheila Moore, former Head Teacher and founder of Music Makers and Shakers, said: “I’m delighted Eastwood Court is working in partnership with us. It’s great to see the residents getting involved with classes, so that both our toddlers and the residents get the benefit of music therapy.

“The classes are held each Tuesday between 10-10:45am, children love the time spent with the older generation and it’s fantastic for all – the residents get to share in the learning and growth of the children every week.”

Catherine McAllistair, Activities Co-ordinator at Eastwood Court Care Home, said: “I’d like to say a huge thanks to Music Makers and Shakers for holding these brilliant classes.

“The residents are really enjoying the sessions; music is definitely a favourite activity in the home and spending time with the children is an added bonus.

“Inter-generational activities definitely have positive effects on people living with dementia and it’s been a great addition to weekly activities within the home.”

Sheila Moore said: “If parents want to join us the details are on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/makersandshakers/ .”

Eastwood Court Care Home forms part of Larchwood Care and is managed by Healthcare Management Solutions. 79% of Larchwood Care Homes are rated as ‘Good’ or above by the CQC, above the industry average.

Violet McCall, aged 94 a resident of Eastwood Court, said: “I really look forward to the Tuesday music classes, we learn from the children, they learn from us and we all have lots of fun!”
